Calkins Bartender
Double-ended bartender runabout
George Calkins adapted many previous designs, including the Pacific City Dory, creating a seaworthy lightweight motorboat that could cross the treacherous river bars on the Oregon Coast. These boats were designed to plane, be nimble and fast, get through breaking surf, and easily beach on a sandy shore. They were so well suited to regional conditions that the USCG adapted the design for use as a motor surf boat.
